Best Dive Sites in Thailand

Similans | PhuketPhi Phi | Racha Yai | Racha Noi | Best Thailand Sites | Myanmar

The Similans is a small archipelago of nine islands and are protected by the national marine park of Thailand.

There is probably no better place to see large pelagic in Thailand, although nothing can be guaranteed.

More manta rays and whale sharks are spotted here than any other dive site in Thailand.

There is a three-mile none fishing radius around the islands and are protected by a twenty-four-hour guard.

Also, the islands are a frequent holiday destination of Her Royal Highness Princess Prathep of Thailand who has a residency here.

Phuket dive sites are no more than two hours cruise from the port of Chalong, Phuket's southern marina.

All dive boats leave every morning between 8-9 am.

During your cruise out to the first dive site, you will enjoy a light breakfast and be introduced to your Instructor or Dive Master.

Some of the best diving in the entire country can be found here:

Black Tips Reefs Sharks, Leopard Sharks, Ghost Pipefish, Tiger Tail Seahorses, Banded Sea Snakes, Manta Rays and the elusive Whaleshark are just a taster of what you can find in these amazing warm waters off the coast of Phuket.

There are six islands that are the world-famous Koh Phi Phi Island group and they really have to be seen to be believed.

Do you have that image of an idyllic beach buried deep somewhere in your mind? Visualize that beach and fantasize a visit, particularly on those wet, cold and windy days at home.

Such days when you wish you were someplace else, well Phi Phi is that place.

There is some wonderful diving here barracudas and trevallies are regulars on the reef.

Down on the sandy bottom, you can spot Khuls Stingrays and Leopard Sharks as well as Giant morays and fantastic macro life.

Racha Yai is one of the most popular dive spots particularly for new divers and those completing a course such as the Scuba Diver, Open Water, Rescue or Divemaster Course. It is also fantastic for those take part in the Discover Scuba Diver program.

There are many islands around Phuket and none more beautiful than the island of Racha Yai.

Racha Yai or as it is sometimes called Raya or Raja Yai is about one and a half hours cruise from Chalong bay on a dive boat, you can get there quicker on speedboat private charter.

The beaches of Racha Yai are gently kissed by the crystal clear the Andaman Sea the beaches are the fine white sand, it is the sort of sand that is so fine, it just slips through your toes.

Racha Noi is a little smaller than Racha Yai differing underwater too, as the dive sites here are deeper and drop off at the southern point to seventy metres.

Racha Noi is the last of the Phuket dive spots, really proved by the fact that it has much deeper waters, and divers must keep an eye on their gauges here, both time and depth, as it would be easy to exceed dive limits.

Racha Yai is the last stop off before heading due south onto the Southern Liveaboard tours which head down to Hin Deang & Hin Muang and the Koh Haa island group.

There are so many dive sites in Thailand to choose from.

Like the sites of Phuket and Phi Phi which are usually reached on a Day Boat all year round.

The Similans offers up fantastic diving which can be done by either a day trip boat or a Liveaboard from October to May.

Here we have put together the World Class sites of Thailand all of which can be incorporated into a Liveaboard trip or day trip from specific locations.

Koh Haa - Richelieu Rock - Hin Deang - Koh Tachai and more

The Burma Banks are a series of large underwater flat-topped sea-mounts that lie approximately 180 kilometres (100 nautical miles) northwest of the Similan Islands.

Excellent chance to see some serious sharks like Bull, Silver Tips and even Oceanic Whitetips.

The banks' surrounding water is over 350 meters deep and large areas rise to within the depth limits of recreational scuba diving.

The banks offer some exciting, stimulating diving, but since this is true open-ocean diving, they are not for everyone.
