Dive Sites - Racha Noi

Racha Yai has a sister island that lies fifty minutes cruise due south and is a dive outpost and much more rugged than Racha Yai.

Racha Noi is a little smaller than Racha Yai differing underwater too, as the dive sites here are deeper and drop off at the southern point to seventy metres.

Racha Noi is the last of the Phuket Dive Spots really proved by the fact that it has much deeper waters, and divers must keep an eye on their gauges here, both time and depth, as it would be easy to exceed dive limits.

Racha Yai is the last stop off before heading due south onto the Southern Liveaboard tours which head down to Hin Deang & Hin Muang and the Koh Haa island group.

Unlike its bigger sister, there are no hotels and it is quite difficult to get onto the island. The island is nearly split in two, almost at the centre point, which for me makes it even more dramatic.

Sailfish can be seen jumping clear of the water, making it popular with deep-sea fisherman. It is also possible to spot Whales especially on the way out, in fact only recently; I saw one with its calf, a truly wonderful experience.

The diving is magnificent on Racha Noi, the visibility can reach over forty metres when conditions are good, the deeper dive sites are more for the experienced divers and those that are completing PADI courses the Nitrox Course would be a good idea for these dive sites.

There are several dive sites here:

Racha Noi is also great for snorkelling as there are several secluded bays which offer great marine life at shallow depths.
