Thailand Best Dive Sites

The Similan Islands are situated in the Andaman Sea and about two hours sail from the resort of Khao Lak; these islands are beautiful and offer up some of the best diving in Thailand.

If you do not have time for a Liveaboard trip then day trips to the Similans are a great way of discovering some of the best dive sites in Thailand.

The Similans are protected and are part of the Thailand National Marine Park organization.

There are some wonderful dive sites in the Similans and we go to different ones every day.

There are nine islands in total and they run from north to south. The sea around the islands is of excellent quality with underwater visibility usually around thirty metres.

On the east side of the island group, you can find the most idyllic beaches with gentle sloping reefs.

The west side of the Similans offers almost unrivaled diving.

The gigantic granite boulders form some of the most spectacular swim-throughs you could wish for.

There are other dive sites that are very close to the Similans and available on a day trip such as Koh Bon.

Koh Bon is famous for its Manta Ray sightings, in fact, there are probably more Manta sightings here than most of the other sites in Thailand.

There is a dive site a little further north of Koh Bon called Koh Tachai Pinnacle, this site is unbelievable and is possibly the most exciting dive in the country -it is the most amazing spectacle of marine life you will see in Thailand.

Richelieu Rock is the most famous of all sites in Thailand and has the most diverse marine life too. Made up of lots of boulders with a maximum depth of over thirty metres -Richelieu is in the world's top ten dive sites.

Here you can find Frogfish, Mantis Shrimp, Harlequin Shrimp, Ghost Pipefish, Whalesharks, Mantas Rays, Barracudas the list simply goes on and on come to dive it ’s amazing.

There are a couple of old wrecks to dive here too, such as Boonsung Wreck and the Thai Muang Wreck. Both are old tin mining dredgers that used to plow the seas years ago.

These old wrecks are a wealth of life particularly macro life and easily accessible from Khao Lak.
